A Conceptual Model for Designing Recycled Aggregate Concrete by Marco Pepe

By Marco Pepe

This ebook experiences at the actual and mechanical characterization of Recycled combination Concrete (RAC), produced via a partial-to-total substitute of standard aggregates with what were dubbed Recycled Concrete Aggregates (RCAs). It proposes a theoretical framework for realizing the relationships among RCAs and RCA, and for predicting the ensuing habit of RAC. The publication demonstrates that during the case of RAC extra parameters need to be taken into consideration than with usual aggregates, end result of the composite nature and better porosity of RCAs. by means of extending Abrams’ legislations for Recycled mixture Concrete, it represents a primary step within the formula of a normal version for predicting the homes of RAC. The theoretical method offered the following addresses an enormous hole within the literature and is predicted to stimulate new learn at the use of this extra sustainable type of concrete in structural applications.

This functional advisor is written particularly for the owner-builder and gives step by step directions supported via diagrams and images. It covers the development procedure from website guidance via to foundations, concrete slabs, strip footings and stumps. specific suggestions for straw bale development and the combination of those innovations with these of traditional condo construction also are coated, together with flooring, bushes wall-frames, ceilings and roof framing.

Finite Element Analysis in Geotechnical Engineering Vol.1 - Theory

This finished new two-volume paintings offers the reader with a close perception into using the finite aspect technique in geotechnical engineering. As professional wisdom required to accomplish geotechnical finite point research isn't quite often a part of a unmarried engineering measure direction, this lucid paintings will turn out valuable.

Structural Rehabilitation of Old Buildings

This current publication describes different building platforms and structural fabrics and parts in the major structures typologies, and it analyses the particularities of every of them, together with, on the finish, normal features relating laboratory and in-situ trying out, numerical modeling, vulnerability review and development upkeep.

1 Processing Procedures This section reports the main alternative processes for producing recycled concrete aggregates from demolition waste. They can be mainly defined as follows: • • • • • • Demolition; Material separation; Material homogenisation; Size reduction; Sieving; Cleaning process. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015 M. 1007/978-3-319-26473-8_4 27 28 4 Recycled Concrete Aggregates Demolition Demolition is obviously the starting stage of concrete recycling procedures. Several technical solutions are possibly available for demolishing existing concrete members and they can be adopted depending on various factors, such as the building site and material and the demolition purpose.

2 shows the results of an advanced 3D CT-scanning technique performed on natural (Fig. 2a) and recycled concrete aggregates (Fig. 2b) used for characterising the internal morphology of the aggregates. The 3D scanner images clearly show the difference in surface texture as well as the internal morphology. e. ranging between the darker spots, representing high density and lighter spots of low density structures. The comparison between Fig. 2a and Fig. 2b emphasises the differences in internal structure of the recycled aggregates and the natural ones.

The amount of AM contents presents on RCAs depends on several factor such us processing procedures, original concrete mixture and particle size. Several authors demonstrated that when the steps of crushing processes increase, the total amount of AM is reduced (de Juan and Gutiérrez 2009; Nagataki et al. 2004) and Etxeberria et al. (2007) declared that if an impact crusher is employed for RCAs production, a higher percentage of aggregates without AM could be achieved. The same authors reported that the AM present in RCAs is lower in strength than the mortar produced in new concrete incorporating RCAs.
